Election Day Polling Place Closing Times Across the U.S.

As Election Day approaches, many Americans are wondering when voting locations will close across the country. Here is a state-by-state breakdown of when polling places will shut their doors on November 3rd.

In parts of Indiana and Kentucky, polling locations will close at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). At 7 p.m. EST, states such as Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, and Vermont will finish voting, along with western parts of Indiana and Kentucky. Additionally, parts of Alabama, Florida, and New Hampshire will also close at this hour.

Moving on to 7:30 p.m. EST, North Carolina, Ohio, and West Virginia will wrap up voting, along with some areas of New Hampshire. At 8 p.m. EST, states including Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C. will finish casting their ballots. There will also be partial closures in Florida, Kansas, Michigan, New Hampshire, North and South Dakota, and Texas.

Arkansas will close its polling locations at 8:30 p.m. EST, followed by Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Wisconsin, and Wyoming at 9 p.m. EST. Partial closures will occur in Kansas, North and South Dakota, and Texas.

At 10 p.m. EST, Montana, Nevada, and Utah will finish voting, with partial closures in Idaho and Oregon. California and Washington will close their polling locations at 11 p.m. EST, with partial closures in Idaho and Oregon. Hawaii will be the last state to finish voting at 12 a.m. EST, with partial closures in Alaska. Alaska will have partial closures at 1 a.m. EST.

It’s important to note that some states are split between multiple time zones, including Idaho and Oregon, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and Kansas, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, and Texas. Alaska is also split between the Hawaii-Aleutian time zone and the Alaska time zone.
