Eight-Year-Old British Chess Prodigy Named Best Female Player at European Championship

In a remarkable display of talent and skill, eight-year-old Bodhana Sivanandan from Harrow has taken the chess world by storm by being named the best female player at The European Blitz Chess Championship in Zagreb, Croatia.

Despite her young age, Bodhana managed to outshine several grandmasters and seasoned players to claim the top spot in the women’s category at the prestigious event. Her stunning performance included a victory over international master and England women’s coach Lorin D’Costa, who is more than three decades her senior.

The European Chess Union praised Bodhana as a “super-talented” player who achieved an “astonishing result” at the championship. Professional chess player Irina Bulmaga also lauded Bodhana’s performance, calling it “unbelievable” and acknowledging her victory ahead of many experienced players.

Bodhana, who is considered a rising star in British chess and ranks among the best in the world for her age group, has previously showcased her skills to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Downing Street. Her exceptional talent and dedication to the game have earned her recognition and admiration from the chess community.

With a remarkable score of 8.5/13 points, Bodhana secured the first prize for women at the championship, surpassing 555 participants, including 48 grandmasters. English international master and chess commentator Lawrence Trent expressed confidence in Bodhana’s future, predicting that she will become England’s best player and leave a lasting impact on the game.

The English Chess Federation also extended its congratulations to Bodhana for her outstanding performance, describing it as a “terrific display” of skill and determination. As Bodhana continues to make waves in the world of chess, her remarkable journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring players and a testament to the power of talent and hard work in achieving success.
