Indian Chess Teams Continue Dominance at 45th Chess Olympiad in Mumbai

Mumbai, September 17: The Indian chess teams continued their impressive run at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Mumbai, with both the Open and Women’s teams securing victories in the sixth round of the prestigious tournament.

Arjun Erigaisi, India’s highest-ranked player, maintained his perfect record by winning his sixth successive game in the Open section, while Divya Deshmukh secured her fifth win in six games in the Women’s competition. The Indian men’s team defeated hosts Hungary 3-1, while the women’s team got the better of Armenia 2.5-1.5.

By winning their respective matches, the Indian teams maintained their position at the top of the standings in both sections. In the Open section, China, the third-seeded team, was held to a 2-2 draw by Vietnam, allowing India to take sole possession of the lead.

In the men’s section, the Indian team thrashed Hungary with Arjun Erigaisi and Vidit Gujrathi leading the charge with wins on the third and fourth boards. In the women’s section, Dronavalli Harika and Vaishali Rameshbabu had to settle for draws, but Divya Deshmukh’s victory secured the win for India.

With Tuesday being a rest day, the Indian teams can now enter the second half of the tournament with confidence as they aim to clinch the titles in their respective sections. Georgia, USA, and Armenia are closely following India in the standings, making for an exciting competition ahead.
