India Makes History with Double Gold at 45th Chess Olympiad

India created history on Sunday by clinching double gold at the 45th Chess Olympiad, marking the country’s first-ever gold medals in both the men’s and women’s categories. The victorious teams celebrated their remarkable achievement in style, with a planned dance routine that caught the attention of many.

Led by players like D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa, the Indian contingent took to the dance floor with the trophy in hand, dancing to the popular song ‘Tunuk Tunuk’. The celebration was met with praise and humor, with renowned businessman Anand Mahindra jokingly stating that victory is best celebrated in Punjabi.

In an interview with NDTV, Vantika Agrawal, a key member of the winning team, revealed that the celebrations had been planned in advance. “We had planned this. We planned that when we win the medal, we will do this dance, this celebration, we will make some reels and go for dinner,” she shared.

The team’s unique celebrations have garnered attention on social media, with one particular post of D Gukesh and Tania Sachdev replicating Rohit Sharma’s trophy walk from the 2024 T20 World Cup going viral. The post has received millions of views and likes within a day of being shared.

India’s women’s team, comprising players like Harika Dronavalli and Tania Sachdev, and the men’s team, featuring talents like Vidit Gujrathi and Pentala Harikrishna, showcased exceptional skill and teamwork to secure the historic double gold at the Chess Olympiad.

After claiming the bronze medal in the previous edition of the Olympiad, India’s triumph this year has solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in the world of chess. The players’ dedication, strategic prowess, and celebratory spirit have not only brought glory to the nation but also inspired chess enthusiasts worldwide.
