The Badminton Association of India Rewards Para Shuttlers for Paris Paralympics Success

In a heartwarming gesture, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced a total reward of Rs 50 lakh for the Indian para shuttlers who brought home medals from the Paris Paralympics last month. The para shuttlers made the nation proud by securing five medals, including one gold, two silver, and two bronze.

Nitesh Kumar, who clinched the gold in the men’s Singles SL3 category, will receive a prize of Rs 15 lakh, while silver medallists Suhas Yathiraj (men’s singles SL4) and Thulasimathi Murugesan (women’s singles SU5) will each be awarded Rs 10 lakh. Bronze medal winners Manisha Ramadass (women’s singles SU5) and Nithya Sre Sivan (women’s singles SH6 category) will each receive Rs 7.5 lakh.

Thulasimathi, Manisha, and Nithya made history by becoming the first Indian women shuttlers to secure medals at the Paralympics, showcasing their incredible talent and determination.

Sanjay Mishra, the secretary-general of BAI, expressed pride in the consistent performance of Indian para badminton players on the world stage. He emphasized that the cash rewards are a way for BAI to recognize and appreciate the efforts of these athletes in bringing glory to the country at the Paralympics.

BAI is dedicated to developing and promoting para-badminton across the country, with plans for more initiatives to support the success of para shuttlers in the future. To further show their support, BAI will organize a virtual interaction session with the para shuttlers to congratulate them and understand their requirements for continued development.
