Chess Olympiad Gold Medalist Grandmaster D Gukesh receives a Mercedes Benz E-Class worth Rs 90 lakh Gift From School

New Delhi: The world of chess in India has a new rising star, and his name is D Gukesh. At just 18 years old, Gukesh has already achieved remarkable success in the world of chess, making the entire country proud. Recently, Gukesh, along with other Indian chess prodigies, secured two gold medals at the Chess Olympiad 2024, showcasing his exceptional talent and skill.

One of Gukesh’s most notable achievements was winning the Candidates Tournament at the age of 17, becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat. He joined the ranks of legendary chess player Vishwanathan Anand as only the second Indian player to win the tournament. Gukesh’s dedication and hard work have paid off, propelling him to the forefront of Indian chess.

Despite his young age, Gukesh has made significant sacrifices to pursue his passion for chess. In an interview with Chess Base India, he revealed that he stopped attending school regularly after class four to focus on his chess career. While this decision may have been unconventional, Gukesh’s commitment to the game has been unwavering.

To celebrate Gukesh’s success, his school, Velammal Vidyalaya Ayanambakkam, presented him with a luxurious gift – a Mercedes Benz E-Class worth Rs 90 lakh. This gesture not only recognizes Gukesh’s achievements but also highlights the school’s support for its talented students. Notably, Gukesh is not the only chess prodigy to emerge from this school, as World Cup runner-up R Praggnanandhaa and Vishwanathan Anand are also alumni.

Despite his rapid rise to fame, Gukesh remains focused on his game and is determined to continue his winning streak. In a recent interview, when asked about his personal life, Gukesh humorously revealed that he does not have a girlfriend and is fully dedicated to his chess career. He acknowledged that a romantic relationship could potentially impact his game by demanding his time and attention, but he remains committed to his passion for chess.

Gukesh’s story is a testament to the power of dedication, hard work, and unwavering passion for one’s craft. As he continues to make waves in the world of chess, the future looks bright for this young Grandmaster.
