upGrad Mumba Masters Defeat Ganges Grandmasters in Global Chess League: Anand Falls to Vachier-Lagrave

Five-time world champion Vishwanathan Anand suffered a defeat at the hands of former world blitz champion Maxime Vachier-Lagrave as the upGrad Mumba Masters secured a convincing 14-5 victory over the Ganges Grandmasters in the ongoing Global Chess League in London.

Both teams were eager for their first win after losing their opening games by identical scores. The highlight match featured Anand facing off against Vachier-Lagrave on board one. Despite initially holding a better position, Anand made a tactical error that allowed Vachier-Lagrave to seize control and ultimately secure a crucial victory.

The upGrad Mumba Masters took control of the match, with wins on the youngsters’ board and a draw on the second women’s board, propelling them into the lead. Despite the efforts of world number three Arjun Erigaisi, the Ganges Grandmasters could not turn the tide, ultimately falling to a 14-5 defeat.

While Parham Maghsoodloo managed to salvage some pride for the Ganges with a hard-fought victory, it was not enough to prevent their second consecutive loss. With the upGrad Mumba Masters claiming their first points, the Ganges Grandmasters now face an uphill battle to stay in contention for the top spots.

Both teams will be back in action later tonight, with the American Gambits taking on the Triveni Continental Kings. The upGrad Mumba Masters will face off against Alpine SG Pipers, while the Ganges Grandmasters will challenge the Triveni Continental Kings in the final match of the day.

The stakes are high as the teams look to bounce back from their early losses and make a push for the top positions in the Global Chess League. Stay tuned for more exciting matches and intense competition in the days to come.
