Exciting Events at the US Chess National Middle School Championship in Atlanta!

The US Chess National Middle School (K-8) Championship is set to take place this weekend in Atlanta, Georgia, and it promises to be an exciting event for all chess enthusiasts. With some of the best scholastic chess players in the country competing, the championship is sure to showcase some intense and strategic gameplay.

Registration is still open for those who want to participate in the championship. Online registration closes on Thursday, May 9, so be sure to visit the event page and secure your spot in the competition.

One of the highlights of the championship will be the presence of guest grandmaster WGM Katerina Nemcova. A three-time Women’s Olympiad participant and Czechoslovakia’s Women’s Champion, Nemcova will be hosting various events throughout the weekend, including Blitz sessions, a simul exhibition, and Grandmaster Lectures with Q&A sessions.

Female players and their families are also invited to participate in special events at the US Chess Girls Club room, where special guests Adia Onyango and Dr. Carolina Blanco, WIM, will be making appearances for games analyses and lectures.

For those who enjoy fast-paced action, the Blitz and Bughouse tournaments will provide plenty of excitement. The Blitz tournament will kick off on Thursday, May 9, with on-site registration available. Bughouse will also take place on Thursday, offering a unique team-based chess experience.

Even if you’re not competing in the K-8 championship, you can still join in on the fun with the Friends and Family Tournament on Saturday. With four rounds of G/30 games in rated and unrated sections, this tournament is open to parents, grandparents, and friends who love to play chess.

For those unable to attend the championship in person, US Chess will be broadcasting live commentary and analysis on their Twitch channel for rounds five through seven. Special guest commentators WGM Sabina Foisor and FM Gauri Shankar will provide insights and connect all the critical moves for the top boards.
