Mumbai, Oct 17: Mumbai’s Arnav Kherdekar has emerged as the champion in the All India FIDE Rating Open Chess Tournament held in Mumbai. The competition, organized by the SMCA Chess School and held at the Russian House, saw Kherdekar and International Master Vikramaditya Kulkarni finishing with 7.5 points each at the end of the eighth and final round.

Kherdekar, with a better progressive tie-breaker score of 41.25 compared to Kulkarni’s 36.75, was declared the champion. On the second board, Kherdekar defeated Darsh Shetty to stay in contention for the top position.

In the top board match, Kulkarni maintained his winning streak and defeated Darsh Shetty, but his inferior progressive score saw him finish in second place. Pune’s Yash Watarkar secured the third position with seven points after beating Yuti Patel.

The tournament saw some intense matches in the final round, with IM Vikramaditya beating Atharv Soni, Arnav Kherdekar defeating Darsh Shetty, and Yash Watarkar emerging victorious against Yuti Patel.
