GMs Nikolas Theodorou and Jeffery Xiong Dominate Titled Tuesday Tournaments on October 22

GMs Nikolas Theodorou and Jeffery Xiong emerged as the champions of the Titled Tuesday tournaments held on October 22, both scoring an impressive 9.5 points. This victory marked Theodoru’s first win in Titled Tuesday, while Xiong secured his 14th title since October 2020 and his third of 2024.

In the early tournament, a total of 723 participants battled it out, with GM Denis Lazavik initially taking the lead with 8.5/9 points. However, Lazavik faced tough opponents in the final rounds, including Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura, ultimately finishing in third place. Theodorou’s remarkable performance in the last four games secured him the top spot, with Carlsen climbing to second place after defeating Jose Martinez in the final round.

On the other hand, the late tournament saw GM Jeffery Xiong and IM Renato Terry dominating the competition, both finishing with a perfect score of 9.5 points. Xiong’s victory against IM Alexander Khlebovich and Terry’s win over Jose Martinez solidified their co-leadership. The final round ended in a draw between Xiong and Terry, securing their positions at the top of the leaderboard.

Theodorou and Xiong each received $1,000 for their victories, with Carlsen and Terry earning $750 for their second-place finishes. The tournaments also featured impressive performances from other players, with prizes awarded to the top finishers.

Overall, the Titled Tuesday tournaments showcased intense competition and exceptional skill from some of the best chess players in the world. The Titled Cup standings highlighted the ongoing battle for supremacy in various categories, adding an extra layer of excitement to the chess community.
