Chess Piece Revealed as Emmy-Winning Actress Laverne Cox on ‘The Masked Singer’

Chess Piece, the latest celebrity to be unmasked on “The Masked Singer,” was revealed to be none other than Emmy-winning actress and LGBTQ advocate Laverne Cox. The actress, known for her role as Sophia Burset on the hit Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black,” wowed audiences with her performance on “Barbie Night.”

During her time on the show, Cox opened up about her fears of singing onstage, sharing, “I have so much trauma around singing. There’s something about this that I thought with a mask on I can get over some of these fears and can work through some of this trauma. I didn’t even realize how deep it was until I started.”

Despite her initial fears, Cox expressed how much fun she had performing on the show, saying, “What I had so much fun about tonight is that I got to sing and dance like I did when I was a little kid, and it didn’t have to be right and it didn’t have to be perfect, and I just had fun. Hopefully, this is the beginning of me healing even more of that trauma.”

Cox was thrilled when Mattel created a Barbie doll in her likeness, a clue that hinted at her true identity on the show. Panelist Ken Jeong praised Cox, calling her a role model, pioneer, and inspiration.

Next on “The Masked Singer,” viewers can look forward to “60s Night,” where the Group B finalists will compete for a spot in the Quarter Finals. The contestants will pay tribute to the groovy era with songs like “House Of The Rising Sun,” “Do You Love Me,” and “Ain’t No Way.” Only time will tell who will survive the double elimination round.

Don’t miss the next episode of “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday, Nov. 6 on FOX to see which celebrity will be unmasked next.
