Novy Bor Chess Club Wins 9th Medal at European Chess Club Cup; Indian Players Shine

Novy Bor Chess Club emerged victorious in the European Chess Club Cup, securing their ninth medal in the competition. The team, featuring top players like Vincent Keymer, David Navara, and Nils Grandelius, defeated the top seed, SuperChess, in the final round with a score of 3.5-2.5. This win adds to their impressive record of three gold, five silver, and one bronze medals in the tournament.

In the Women’s section, TAJFUN-SK Ljubljana clinched the gold medal for the first time. Players like Nana Dzagnidze and Zhu Jiner put up stellar performances on boards one through three, leading their team to victory without the need for tiebreaks.

The tournament, held in Serbia from October 20 to 26, featured 84 teams in the Open section and 18 teams in the Women’s section. Notable players like Arjun Erigaisi and Vidit Gujrathi showcased their skills, with Erigaisi breaking the 2800 live rating mark and reaching world number three temporarily.
