Prince William Recalls Playing Chess and Chatting at The Passage Homelessness Charity with Princess Diana, More Than 30 Years Ago
The Prince of Wales has shared a touching memory from his childhood in a new documentary, recalling his first visit to The Passage homelessness charity with his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, more than 30 years ago.
In the documentary, Prince William described feeling anxious before his first visit to the charity, but his mother’s warmth and humor quickly put him at ease. He remembered playing chess and chatting with people at The Passage, and realizing that there are others who don’t have the same life as he does.
The prince’s experience at The Passage had a profound impact on him, inspiring his work to end homelessness through his Homewards initiative. The campaign aims to develop a blueprint for eradicating homelessness in all its forms, making it rare, brief, and unrepeated.
Previously unseen pictures of William’s visits to The Passage with his mother in 1993 have been released, showing the prince playing chess and interacting with people at the charity. The documentary will feature these images and follow the prince during the first year of his Homewards initiative.
Viewers can catch the documentary on October 30 and 31 at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX, STV and STV Player, to learn more about Prince William’s efforts to end homelessness and the impact of his childhood experiences at The Passage.
