Meet Anish Sarkar: The World’s Youngest-Rated Chess Prodigy at Three Years Old

Three-year-old Anish Sarkar from Kolkata, India, is making waves in the world of chess as the youngest-rated player with a FIDE rating of 1555. While most toddlers are busy with nursery rhymes and Lego, Anish is already competing in tournaments, solving chess puzzles, and watching chess videos on YouTube.

Anish’s journey to becoming the world’s youngest-rated player has captured the attention of chess enthusiasts worldwide, thanks to ChessBase India documenting his extraordinary progress. The young prodigy has showcased his skills by demonstrating advanced chess concepts like the smothered mate and double-rook sacrifice checkmate in videos.

Despite his tender age, Anish has already participated in tournaments, including the West Bengal U9 Championship, where he faced opponents up to six years older than him and still managed to impress with a score of 5.5/8. He recently obtained his FIDE rating after meeting the minimum score requirement in a tournament for children under 13 years old.

Anish’s parents have emphasized that they are supporting his passion for chess without putting any pressure on him. He is now part of a special training group led by India’s second-ever Grandmaster, Dibyendu Barua, who has praised Anish’s remarkable focus and dedication to the game.

The young chess prodigy’s love for the game is evident, with Magnus Carlsen being his ultimate hero. As India gears up for GM Gukesh Dommaraju’s world championship match in Singapore, Anish’s story adds to the excitement in the chess community.

With upcoming events like the Chennai Grand Masters and Tata Steel Chess India, Anish’s hometown of Kolkata will be buzzing with chess action. Who knows, maybe Anish will have the chance to meet his idol, Magnus Carlsen, in the near future.

Anish’s remarkable journey serves as an inspiration to chess enthusiasts of all ages, reminding us that passion and dedication can lead to extraordinary achievements at any age.
