Exciting Results from Round 4 of Chennai Grand Masters 2024: Arjun Erigaisi and Pranav Venkatesh Lead Their Sections

In a thrilling fourth round of the Chennai Grand Masters 2024 tournament, GM Arjun Erigaisi emerged victorious against GM Amin Tabatabaei in a high-stakes battle. Erigaisi’s aggressive play and risky opening moves paid off as he secured the win and continued to lead the Masters section with 3.5/4. Tabatabaei, along with GM Levon Aronian, closely follows Erigaisi with 2.5 points each.

In the Challengers section, GM Pranav Venkatesh maintained his clean score by defeating GM Vaishali Rameshbabu in a long endgame. Venkatesh’s strategic play has earned him a full-point lead over the field, with GM Leon Mendonca and GM Raunak Sadhwani trailing behind on three and 2.5 points respectively.

The upcoming fifth round of the tournament is scheduled to start on November 9th at 4.30 a.m. ET/10.30 CET/3 p.m. IST.

In a post-game interview, Erigaisi praised his opponent’s spirit for engaging in a full-fledged fight rather than playing it safe. The intense battle between the two joint leaders showcased the competitive nature of the tournament.
