World Chess Championship Final: D. Gukesh vs Ding Liren Set for Historic Showdown in Singapore

The stage is set for a historic showdown at the World Chess Championship final, as India’s rising star D. Gukesh takes on reigning champion Ding Liren from China. Scheduled from November 25 to December 13, 2024, in Singapore, this much-anticipated match promises to be a thrilling battle of wits.

At just 18 years old, Gukesh has the opportunity to make history by becoming the youngest ever World Chess Champion. If he emerges victorious, he will surpass Garry Kasparov’s record set in 1985 when he claimed the title at 22.

The championship will follow a 14-game classical format, with the first player to score 7.5 points declared the winner. In case of a tie, tiebreakers will determine the champion, including rapid matches, mini rapid matches, blitz matches, and sudden death blitz games.

A total prize pool of $2.5 million (approx. ₹20.8 crore) is up for grabs, with $200,000 (₹1.67 crore) awarded for every game won. The remaining prize money will be split equally between the players, with the winner of tiebreaks receiving $1.3 million (₹10.83 crore) and the runner-up earning $1.2 million (₹10 crore).

Chess enthusiasts can catch all the action live on FIDE’s official channels, including YouTube and Twitch, with matches starting at 2:30 PM IST (17:00 local time). The battle between Gukesh and Ding is sure to captivate audiences worldwide, as the world eagerly awaits the crowning of the next chess legend.
