Youngest Challenger D Gukesh Takes on Defending Champion Ding Liren in World Chess Championship Clash

Indian chess prodigy D Gukesh is set to take on defending champion Ding Liren in the upcoming 14-round World Chess Championship clash, with experts predicting an intense battle between the two players. At just 18 years old, Gukesh is the youngest ever challenger for the title, and according to FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky, he has a more than 50 per cent chance of becoming the youngest-ever world champion.

Sutovsky expressed his confidence in Gukesh’s abilities, stating that the young Indian enters the match as the favorite. Despite Ding Liren’s experience and past successes, Sutovsky believes that Gukesh has a strong chance of emerging victorious in the championship clash.

One of the reasons for Gukesh being considered the favorite is Ding’s lackluster performance this year, while the Indian recently led his team to a historic gold medal at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest. However, Sutovsky cautioned against underestimating Ding, noting the Chinese Grandmaster’s potential to recover his form and make a strong comeback in the championship.

The upcoming clash between Gukesh and Ding is expected to be a close and exciting match, with potential surprises and unexpected twists throughout. Sutovsky highlighted the importance of experience in long games, suggesting that if the matches prolong, it could be an advantage for Ding due to his greater experience.

As the anticipation builds for the World Chess Championship clash, fans are eagerly awaiting to see how the young Indian challenger will fare against the defending champion. With both players bringing their unique strengths to the board, the championship promises to be a thrilling battle of wits and strategy.
