North American Youth Championships Conclude with Junior Players Earning New FIDE Titles

The North American Youth Championships recently concluded in Dulles, Virginia, with junior players from Mexico, USA, and Canada born on or after January 1, 2006, showcasing their skills on the chessboard. Organized by Capital Area Chess and approved by US Chess, CCA, and FIDE, the tournament featured 12 sections ranging from Under-18 to Under-8 for both boys and girls.

A total of 368 players competed in the tournament, with American players dominating the field and securing most of the direct titles and norms up for grabs. The competition was fierce, with players vying for medals, rating points, and the prestigious titles specified in the FIDE regulations.

Among the standout performers were FM Aaron Reeve Mendes from Canada, who clinched the gold in the Under-18 Open section and earned an automatic IM title. In the Under-18 Girls category, Jasmine Su emerged victorious, securing the gold and a WIM title. Other notable winners included Ronen Wilson, Narayan Venkatesh, and Ted Wang, who all claimed top honors in their respective age groups.
