Magnus Carlsen hits back at FIDE’s Viswanathan Anand over World Blitz Chess Championship controversy

Magnus Carlsen, the World No. 1 chess player, has found himself in the midst of a controversy after being fined $200 for wearing jeans at the World Blitz Chess Championship, a violation of the tournament regulations. Following FIDE’s decision to allow players to compete in jeans, Carlsen confirmed his return to the championship but did not hold back in criticizing the organization and its deputy president, Viswanathan Anand.

In a candid interview with ‘Take Take Take’, an app he co-promotes, Carlsen expressed his frustration with FIDE’s handling of the situation. He accused Anand and other officials of being unproductive in their discussions and stated that they were not suited for their positions.

Carlsen argued that he may not have even broken any rules, as the regulations regarding attire were not clearly defined. He criticized FIDE for taking a narrow interpretation of the rule and not allowing room for discussions or exceptions.

On the other hand, Anand defended FIDE’s decision to fine Carlsen, stating that the Norwegian player left them with no choice after refusing to adhere to the rules. Anand emphasized that Carlsen’s decision seemed emotional and that he was not willing to compromise.

The clash between Carlsen and FIDE has sparked a debate within the chess community, with fans divided on who is at fault in this situation. As the World Blitz Chess Championship continues, all eyes will be on Carlsen and FIDE to see how this controversy unfolds.
