Cloop: Textile Recycling Initiative

Local social enterprise Cloop is making waves in the textile recycling industry by collecting reusable clothes and textiles to reduce waste. The items are sorted out and repurposed in various ways, including being reused, resold, upcycled, or donated. Even stained or torn items are accepted, as they are sent to a textile recycling facility in Malaysia. Any remaining waste is sent to a cement plant for energy production.

Cloop accepts a wide range of items, including clothes, household linens, soft toys, bags, caps, and shoes, regardless of condition. To donate, simply drop off your items at one of over 100 yellow Cloop textile recycling collection bins islandwide.

In a similar effort to support the needs of migrant workers in Singapore, non-governmental organization It’s Raining Raincoats is accepting in-kind donations of men’s personal items, luggage, backpacks, and more. The items must be new or like new, and larger items such as appliances are also accepted. Donations can be dropped off at designated locations, with separate arrangements made for bulkier items.

Uniqlo and Zara are also joining the sustainability movement by accepting pre-loved clothing donations. Uniqlo will wash and redistribute donated clothes to beneficiaries, while Zara collects clothing donations to be redistributed to local non-profit organizations or recycled into new fabrics.

For book lovers looking to declutter their shelves, Dignity Mama is accepting preloved books in good condition. The initiative, run by social organization Project Dignity, sells the donated books at booths in hospitals staffed by young people with special needs and caregivers.

These initiatives provide a meaningful way to declutter your home while supporting environmental sustainability and helping those in need. Consider donating your unwanted items to make a positive impact today.
