Stavanger (Norway), Jan 21 (PTI) – The upcoming Norway Chess tournament is set to be a clash of chess titans, with world champions D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi gearing up to take on heavyweights like Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana. The prestigious event, scheduled to be held from May 26 to June 6 in Stavanger, will feature some of the best players in the world vying for the top spot.

Norway Chess organizers announced on Tuesday that renowned Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, currently ranked world No. 3, and China’s No. 1 Wei Yi will also be competing in the tournament. This star-studded lineup promises to deliver thrilling matches and intense competition.

With four players boasting a rating over 2800, this year’s Norway Chess tournament is shaping up to be one of the strongest in history. Only five rating points separate it from the strongest edition held in 2017, highlighting the caliber of players set to participate.

Nakamura, with a FIDE rating of 2802, brings a wealth of experience to the tournament. A five-time U.S. Chess Champion and reigning FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Champion, Nakamura is no stranger to success on the chessboard.
