A Thrilling Victory for Gukesh D in World Chess Championship Game 11

In a nail-biting showdown at the World Chess Championship in Singapore, Gukesh D emerged victorious in a tense 29-move battle against reigning champion Ding Liren. The game, which saw seven consecutive draws leading up to this point, ended with a dramatic one-move blunder by Ding Liren during mutual time trouble, giving Gukesh D a one-point lead with only three classical games remaining.

The game started with an unconventional opening as Ding Liren spent a significant amount of time on his fourth and fifth moves, ultimately opting for a sharp 2….d4 instead of the more cautious 2…e6. Gukesh D capitalized on this decision with a surprising pawn push, 5.a3, catching Ding off guard and gaining a time advantage.

Despite a promising start, Gukesh D made a critical error with 9.d3, allowing Ding to seize the opportunity with 9…a5 10.b5 Nbd7. However, Gukesh fought back with strategic moves like 16.a4, 17.b6, and 18.Ba3, gaining the upper hand as the game progressed.

As the players approached time control, Gukesh showcased his attacking prowess with a clever knight manoeuvre, repositioning the piece via 25.Na1 and 26.Nb3. The game reached its climax as both players made some imprecise moves in severe time trouble, leading to Ding Liren’s fatal error with 28…Qc8, allowing Gukesh to secure victory with 29.Qxc6.

Despite the setback, Ding Liren remains hopeful, drawing parallels to his previous comeback in a similar situation. With three games left in the championship and the support of his team, Ding Liren is gearing up for a potential comeback in the upcoming critical games.

The victory for Gukesh D has set the stage for an exciting conclusion to the World Chess Championship, with fans eagerly anticipating the next moves from both players as the match in Singapore approaches its climax.
