Updates from Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025 Weissenhaus: Reigning World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju Aims for First Victory on Day 2

The Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025 at Weissenhaus Private Luxury Nature Resort in Northern Germany is heating up as reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju looks to bounce back on Day 2 after a rocky start on Day 1.

After a tough first day that saw Gukesh secure only two points with four draws and a loss in five rounds, the pressure is on for the young Indian GM to secure his first victory and seal his spot in the knockout rounds. Currently tied with world No 1 Magnus Carlsen, No 2 Hikaru Nakamura, and German Grandmaster Vincent Keymer, Gukesh will need to bring his A-game to stay in contention.

The tournament, played in the Freestyle Fischer Random format, saw Gukesh start the day with a draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov followed by a loss to Alireza Firouzja. However, he managed to salvage the day with three consecutive draws to stay in the mix.

Meanwhile, world No 4 Fabiano Caruana and Uzbekistani GM Javokhir Sindarov lead the pack with 4.5 points each, with Firouzja close behind at 3.5 points. Carlsen had a mixed day, bouncing back from a loss to Caruana with a win over Keymer but then suffering back-to-back losses to Fedoseev and Sindarov.

As the competition intensifies, all eyes will be on Gukesh as he looks to make a comeback and secure his spot in the next round. Stay tuned for more updates on the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour at Weissenhaus LIVE.
