Exciting New Initiative in Swedish Chess Community: Schackelit Sverige Launches Tournament Series to Support Young Elite Players

Sweden’s chess community is abuzz with excitement as the groundbreaking initiative, “Schackelit Sverige”, takes center stage. This program, spearheaded by IM, FT & IA Vladimir Poley and Saida Trost, aims to nurture young elite players and elevate interest in chess globally. Supported by local chess clubs SK Rockaden and SS 4 Springare, the initiative is set to provide Sweden’s rising stars with opportunities to shine on the international stage.

The project focuses on helping young talents participate in norm tournaments, a crucial step towards earning prestigious titles like International Master (IM) and Grandmaster (GM). The series kicks off with its first tournament at the newly opened 4-star Hotel Stockholm North by First Hotels from February 17–21.

This initiative marks a new chapter for Swedish chess, offering rare opportunities for players to compete in tournaments that provide title norms. The four-tournament series planned for 2025 aims to support players in advancing their chess careers.

The inaugural event, the Hotel Stockholm North by First Hotels young talents tournament, features a strong lineup of players, including IM Jung Min Seo, IM Edvin Trost, and GM Vitalij Sivuk. The tournament offers both IM and GM norm opportunities, with the second tournament already scheduled for April 28 – May 2.

While Svenska Schackakademien is on its way to becoming an official sponsor, the organizers hope to expand the project further and provide more opportunities for young players to train under veteran grandmasters.

More than just earning titles, the initiative aims to bring the chess community together, foster personal growth, and create a challenging yet enjoyable environment for young players to thrive. Live broadcasts of the games will allow fans to follow the action, while players can enjoy a comfortable and inspiring atmosphere at Hotel Stockholm North.

Chess enthusiasts are encouraged to watch the games live in Upplands Väsby or follow the action online. Stay tuned for updates and witness Sweden’s future chess stars in action. For more information and media inquiries, contact poleychess@hotmail.com or saida.trost@gmail.com. Photos and game coverage will be available throughout the tournament.
