2025 Weissenhaus Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Quarterfinal Recap: Carlsen, Keymer, Caruana, and Nakamura in the Lead

World number-one Magnus Carlsen took the lead in the 2025 Weissenhaus Freestyle Chess Grand Slam quarterfinal after exploiting a mistake by GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov on move three. Carlsen played a perfect 23-move game with an accuracy of 98.7, showcasing his dominance in the match. Other notable wins in the quarterfinals included GM Vincent Keymer defeating GM Alireza Firouzja and GM Fabiano Caruana winning a tense time-trouble battle against World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju.

In the consolation battle for ninth place, GM Levon Aronian scored his first win of the event against GM Vladimir Fedoseev. All players who lost the first game will have a chance to bounce back on Monday and force tiebreaks.

Day four of the tournament is set to begin on Monday, February 10, with exciting matchups on the horizon.
