Gukesh Dommaraju Takes Sole Lead in Tata Steel Masters Tournament

After winning the World Championship, Gukesh Dommaraju is showing no signs of slowing down as he has taken the sole lead in the Tata Steel Masters tournament. In the ninth round, Gukesh secured a full point against Leon Luke Mendonca, while his former co-leaders, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu and Nodirbek Abdusattorov, both dropped points.

Abdusattorov drew with Fabiano Caruana, while Praggnanandhaa suffered a defeat against Anish Giri. Giri’s victory against Praggnanandhaa was the result of a fine positional game, while Abdusattorov had to settle for a draw.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Fedoseev is now sharing second place with strong performances in the tournament. Fedoseev secured another full point in his game, showcasing his attacking play and capitalizing on his material advantage.

Other notable results in the tournament include a draw between Jorden van Foreest and Max Warmerdam, as well as a draw between Alexey Sarana and Vincent Keymer. Wei Yi and Arjun Erigaisi also ended their game in a draw.

In the Challengers section, Thai Dai Van Nguyen defended his lead with a draw, while Erwin l’Ami was unable to secure more than half a point in his game. The ninth round also saw victories with the black pieces in games between Ediz Gürel and Faustino Oro, as well as Benjamin Bok and Irina Bulmaga.
