In a surprising turn of events, India’s leading chess coach has named Aravindh Chithambaram as the next ‘Viswanathan Anand,’ overshadowing the reigning World Chess Champion and FIDE World No. 3, D Gukesh. Chithambaram’s recent victory at the Prague Chess Masters 2025 has catapulted him into the spotlight, positioning him as a strong contender in the FIDE Circuit 2025.

Currently ranked third in the FIDE Circuit 2025, Chithambaram is trailing behind Ding Liren and R Praggnanandhaa, with the winner of the circuit securing a direct spot in the Candidates in 2026. Additionally, Chithambaram has made significant strides in the live chess rankings, climbing to World No. 14, surpassing the legendary Viswanathan Anand, who currently holds the 15th spot.

His long-time coach, Ramachandran Ramesh, has hailed Chithambaram as the most talented chess player in India after Anand, dismissing other contenders like D Gukesh. Ramesh, a renowned GM and founder of a chess academy in Chennai, praised Chithambaram’s skills and highlighted his recent boost in confidence.

Chithambaram’s impressive track record includes a second-place finish in the World U14 Chess Championship, a victory in the Indian U19 Chess Championship at the age of 12, and multiple titles as an International Master and Grandmaster. His recent triumph at the Prague Chess Masters, where he remained undefeated with a score of 6/9, further solidifies his position as a rising star in Indian chess.

With his exceptional talent and unwavering determination, Aravindh Chithambaram is set to follow in the footsteps of chess legends like Viswanathan Anand and make a name for himself on the international stage. Stay tuned for more updates on his promising career in the world of chess.
