Dorian Thompson-Robinson Eager to Learn and Compete with Jalen Hurts
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the newest addition to the Philadelphia Eagles, is not only looking forward to learning from starting quarterback Jalen Hurts but also to competing with him both on and off the field.
Thompson-Robinson, who recently joined the Eagles from the Browns as part of the return from the Kenny Pickett trade, shared that he has crossed paths with Hurts before through their mutual chess mentor Seth Makowsky. The quarterback expressed his eagerness to challenge Hurts to a game of chess and to learn from his experience and leadership.
Having been introduced to chess by former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly during their time together at UCLA, Thompson-Robinson emphasized the parallels between decision-making in chess and on the football field. He believes that the strategic thinking required in chess can translate to success as a quarterback.
Despite his challenging tenure in Cleveland, Thompson-Robinson is excited about his fresh start in Philadelphia and is eager to soak up knowledge from Hurts, a two-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl MVP. He admires Hurts’ professionalism and leadership both on and off the field and is looking forward to competing with him to improve his own skills.
In addition to Hurts, Thompson-Robinson also knows backup quarterback Tanner McKee from their time in the Pac-12 and is prepared to compete for a role on the team during the upcoming spring and training camp.
The Eagles see Thompson-Robinson as a player worth developing, and the quarterback is grateful for the opportunity to be in Philadelphia, a team he admired during the pre-draft process in 2023. He is excited to learn and grow in a new environment while also challenging his teammates to a game of chess.
With his confidence in his chess skills, Thompson-Robinson is ready to take on any challengers, including Hurts, and is looking forward to showcasing his abilities both on and off the field as he settles into his new role with the Eagles.
