6 Exciting Activities to Enjoy on the Treasure Coast During Spring Break 2025
Spring break 2025 is just around the corner, and if you’re looking for some fun and exciting things to do on the Treasure Coast, look no further! From watching the Mets train at Clover Park to exploring your creative side at the Vero Beach Art & Craft Expo, there is something for everyone to enjoy this spring.
But while the excitement of spring break activities may be in full swing, the city of Fort Pierce has been embroiled in a different kind of drama – the negotiation of a new city manager’s salary. After a contentious public discussion, Richard Chess, Broward County assistant general manager of transportation and finance, has agreed to accept a salary of $200,000, $15,000 less than his current salary.
Chess will officially begin his role as city manager on April 2, following a seven-month process that began after former City Manager Nick Mimms was arrested on charges of bid rigging and official misconduct. Mimms, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, was officially fired by city commissioners last year, with his termination delayed to allow him to exhaust his remaining paid time off.
The contract agreement with Chess includes a provision for a 5% pay increase after six months if his performance is deemed “satisfactory.” Commissioner Michael Broderick was the lone dissenting vote, citing consistency in his decision-making process. The contract also includes provisions for Chess to be fired without cause at any time, with a severance package provided in such an event.
As the city of Fort Pierce moves forward with its new city manager, residents can look forward to a fresh start and new leadership in the Sunrise City. And for those looking for some spring break fun, the Treasure Coast offers a variety of activities to enjoy during the upcoming break.
