D Gukesh reveals the secret to his meteoric rise in chess and preparation for World Championship

At just 18 years old, D Gukesh has taken the chess world by storm with his meteoric rise to the top. The Indian Grandmaster recently revealed the secret to his success in an exclusive interview with The Times of India.

Gukesh, who surpassed the legendary Viswanathan Anand as the top-ranked Indian chess player after 37 years in 2023, shared that he dedicates almost 10 hours to chess when he has no commitments. His hard work and dedication paid off as he became the youngest winner in the history of the Candidates and the World Championship.

The reigning world champion also credited his extensive preparations for the World Championship in Singapore for his success in subsequent tournaments. Despite finishing as the runner-up at the Tata Steel Chess in Netherlands, Gukesh remains focused on taking one match at a time and not stressing about other things.

Next up for Gukesh is the Paris leg of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour, where he will be competing alongside fellow Indian players Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Gujrathi. After a disappointing 8th place finish in the opening event of the tour in Germany, Gukesh is determined to bounce back in the unpredictable format of the competition.

With his talent, hard work, and determination, D Gukesh is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the world of chess. Fans will be eagerly watching to see what the young prodigy accomplishes next on his remarkable journey to the top.
