Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi Ties the Knot with Nidhi Kataria in Luxurious Pune Wedding
The chess world was abuzz with excitement as GM Vidit Gujrathi tied the knot with Nidhi Kataria at the luxurious Oxford Golf Resort in Pune, India. The 30-year-old grandmaster, currently ranked number 25 in the world, and his bride, 28-year-old homeopathic doctor Nidhi, had announced their engagement last November, making their wedding a highly anticipated event.
The wedding was a star-studded affair, with prominent chess players like Viswanathan Anand and Gukesh Dommaraju hitting the dance floor at the celebration. The Baraat procession was a sight to behold, with a rare gathering of chess legends coming together to celebrate the couple’s special day.
Anish Giri and his wife Sopiko Guramishvili flew in from the Netherlands to attend the wedding, adding to the festive atmosphere. The guest list included a who’s who of the Indian chess scene, with GMs like Arjun Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, and Abhimanyu Puranik in attendance.
Despite the wedding festivities, Vidit has a tournament coming up soon, the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Paris, starting on April 7. He mentioned that they might celebrate their honeymoon in Paris as well, hoping that the joyous mood from the wedding will translate into good chess performance.
