In a thrilling turn of events at the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025 tournament in Weissenhaus, Vincent Keymer shocked the chess world by claiming victory over Magnus Carlsen, the reigning champion. Carlsen, considered the strongest chess player of this era, had to settle for third place in the tournament.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Nodirbek Abdusattorov also competed in the tournament, with Vachier-Lagrave settling for sixth place and Abdusattorov falling to Ian Nepomniachtchi in a hard-fought match.
