Norway Chess: Equal Women’s Classical Super Tournament for the First Time Ever

In a groundbreaking move, Norway Chess is set to host an equal Women’s Classical Super tournament for the first time ever. This historic event will feature the same number of players, rounds, and format for both the men’s and women’s categories. What’s more, the international broadcast of the tournament will be available on Sony Liv in India.

Three Indian players, R Praggnanandha, Koneru Humpy, and Vaishali R, will be participating in the 12th edition of Norway Chess. The tournament will kick off with exciting Round 1 pairings, including matchups like Ding Liren vs. Magnus Carlsen and Wenjun Ju vs. R Vaishali.

The format of the tournament will see 6 players competing in a double-round event with Armageddon. Each player will have 120 minutes on the clock with an increment of 10 seconds starting from move 41. In case of a draw in the classical game, an Armageddon game will be played to determine the winner.

The tournament will run from May 27th to June 7th, with games starting at 5 p.m. local time and 8:30 p.m. IST. The prize fund for the tournament is 1690000 NOK, with the winner taking home NOK 700000.

Chess enthusiasts can watch the tournament live at the SR-Bank in Stavanger City, with tickets available for purchase at the venue. Ticket prices range from 200 NOK for adults to 100 NOK for children and 400 NOK for families.
