World Chess Championship 2022: Top Players Compete in Jerusalem

The World Chess Championship kicks off in Jerusalem, featuring the best players from around the globe, including the 19-year-old American sensation, Hans Niemann. This prestigious event, running from November 20 to 25 at the Dan Hotel, will see 12 national teams vying for the coveted trophy.

In a surprising turn of events, the Chinese team, which has been absent from international competitions due to recent epidemic outbreaks, will be making an appearance with a limited staff. Additionally, Ukraine will be participating, while Russia has been suspended by FIDA following the invasion of Ukraine.

The excitement is palpable as the chess community gears up for this highly anticipated championship. Tzvika Barkai, president of the Israel Chess Union, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The teams competing are among the best in the world, and the Israeli team is ready to showcase their skills on this global stage.”

In addition to the intense competition, the Jerusalem community will also partake in the festivities, with a carnival featuring a simultaneous battle between international artist Alexander Michalevsky and 30 local children. With players from four continents converging in Israel, the World Chess Championship promises to be a thrilling and unforgettable event.
