Praggnanadhaa wins armageddon against world champion Liren at Norway Chess

Welcome to ESPN India’s daily blog, where we bring you all the latest news from the world of Indian sports. In a thrilling turn of events at the Norway Chess Tournament, Grandmaster R Praggnanadhaa emerged victorious in an armageddon match against world champion Ding Liren.

The young Indian player played out a draw against Liren in the classical format and then secured the win in the tiebreaker to claim the extra point. Liren, who had avoided a fifth straight loss in the tournament, couldn’t maintain his momentum in the armageddon match and ultimately lost from a winning position.

Praggnanadhaa’s impressive performance also included wins against top players like Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana in the classical games. His victory against Liren has solidified his position in the tournament standings.

In the women’s section, GM Vaishali faced back-to-back losses in the classical format, while Humpy secured her first classical win by defeating Vaishali. The competition in both the men’s and women’s categories remains intense, with players vying for the top spots.

Other notable results from the tournament include Hikaru Nakamura’s thrilling armageddon win against Magnus Carlsen, cutting down the world champion’s lead at the top of the table. With just three rounds to go, the competition is heating up in Norway Chess.
