LDCA Hosts “Summer Special Rapid Chess Tournament” for Under-11 and Under-16 Players

The Ludhiana District Chess Association (LDCA) recently organized the “Summer Special Rapid Chess Tournament” for young players under the age of 16 at Janj Ghar, Shastri Nagar. The event aimed to encourage budding talents to utilize their summer vacations productively and prepare for upcoming state championships. Participants from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh showcased their skills in the competition.

A total of 64 players took part in the tournament, with 26 competing in the Under-11 category and 38 in the Under-16 category. The prize pool of ₹38,000 was distributed among the winners, with the top players in each category receiving cash prizes of ₹5,000, ₹3,000, and ₹2,000 for first, second, and third place respectively. Additionally, the top ten players and the top three girls in both categories were awarded cash prizes, trophies, and medals by LDCA president Arvinder Preet Singh.

In the Under-11 category, Arena FIDE Master (AFM) Aarav Arora from Bathinda Club emerged as the top player, while Jivika from Sangrur claimed the top position among female players. In the Under-16 category, Reet Garcha from Ludhiana secured a cash prize of ₹2,000 and a medal in the female category, while Puneet Verma from Hoshiarpur was declared the overall best player, earning a cash prize of ₹5,000 and a trophy.

The tournament not only provided a platform for young chess enthusiasts to showcase their talent but also highlighted the importance of strategic thinking and mental agility in the game of chess. Congratulations to all the winners and participants for their outstanding performances!
