Disc Golf and Chess Unite: The 2024 Chess.com Invitational and Bullet Chess Championship
The worlds of disc golf and chess are colliding once again in a unique and exciting crossover event. The 2024 Chess.com Invitational, which kicked off the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s season in February, saw top disc golfers Anthony Barela and Eveliina Salonen take home the championship titles.
One of the highlights of the event was the presence of chess world number-one GM Magnus Carlsen, who is no stranger to the sport of disc golf. Carlsen, along with six-time disc golf world champion Paul McBeth, was interviewed by Chess.com’s Chief Chess Officer Danny Rensch, who is also a fan of both games.
Now, the Disc Golf Pro Tour is returning the favor by supporting the 2024 Bullet Chess Championship, which promises to be the fastest online chess event of the year. The tournament, set to begin on June 10, will feature top chess players like four-time winner GM Hikaru Nakamura and other grandmasters such as Fabiano Caruana, Alireza Firouzja, and Nihal Sarin.
In addition to the thrilling competition, fans of both sports will have the opportunity to join the Official DGPT Club on Chess.com. Members of the club will receive updates from the disc golf community, participate in tournaments for DGPT prizes, and enjoy special offers. They will also have the chance to claim a free month of Disc Golf Network Standard or Pro subscription.
Chess.com has also announced a partnership with the DGPT for the remainder of the 2024 season, with plans to feature the “Chess.com Checkmate Play of the Day” during upcoming tournament broadcasts. DGPT CEO and Tour Director Jeff Spring expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the enthusiasm from disc golf fans for the crossover event.
The main event of the 2024 Bullet Chess Championship will be broadcast live on Chess.com/TV, Twitch, and YouTube channels, with expert commentary provided by Chess.com’s team.
