Divya Deshmukh Leads World Junior Girls’ Chess Championship Heading into Final Round

Divya Deshmukh continues her winning streak at the World Junior girls’ chess championship, inching closer to the title with a half-point lead over her closest competitor.

In the 10th round, Deshmukh secured a crucial victory against Sachi Jain in an intense battle on the top board. Jain’s weak moves with her knights proved costly, allowing Deshmukh to clinch the win in just 26 moves. With this victory, Deshmukh now stands at nine points and is on the brink of becoming the clear champion if she can defeat Beloslava Krasteva of Bulgaria in the final round.

Meanwhile, Mariam Mkrtchyan of Armenia remains a strong contender with 8.5 points after defeating Oshini Gunawardhana of Sri Lanka. The competition is heating up as the final round approaches, with Mkrtchyan keeping her hopes alive for the title.

In the open section, Mamikon Gharibyan of Armenia has taken the lead with eight points after defeating Rudik Makarian of Russia. Gharibyan is closely followed by four players, including Makarian, who are half a point behind.
