Nagpur’s very own Divya Deshmukh added another feather to her cap as she emerged victorious in the World junior girls’ chess championship held at the Gift City Club. The 18-year-old chess prodigy showcased her exceptional skills and strategic prowess throughout the tournament, finishing with an impressive 10 points out of a possible 11.

In the final round, Divya faced off against Bulgaria’s Beloslava Krasteva and emerged triumphant, solidifying her position as the top-seeded player in the competition. With nine wins and two draws under her belt, Divya remained unbeaten and proved her mettle on the global stage.

Meanwhile, in the open section, Kazakhstan’s Kazybek Nogerbek claimed the title after a thrilling victory in the last round against Mamikon Gharibyan of Armenia. Despite stiff competition, Nogerbek’s stellar performance earned him the top spot, with Armenia’s Emin Ohanyan closely behind.

Among the Indian contingent, Pranav Anand put up a commendable performance, securing the 10th position in the overall standings. Divya’s dominance in the girls’ section was unmatched, with Mariam Mkrtchyan and Ayan Allahverdiyeva taking the runner-up and third positions, respectively.
