Introducing the Titled Cup: A New Era of Competition for Titled Tuesdays

Chess fans around the world are gearing up for an even more thrilling year of Titled Tuesdays on Chess.com. The beloved weekly battles, where titled players can face off against the likes of GM Magnus Carlsen and GM Hikaru Nakamura, are about to get even more exciting with the introduction of the Titled Cup.

The Titled Cup is a year-long leaderboard competition that will track Titled Tuesday results from over 100 events throughout 2024. Players will be ranked based on the sum of their best 20 Titled Tuesday scores, with separate leaderboards for open players, women, juniors, girls, and seniors.

Prizes for the Titled Cup range from $10,000 for topping the open leaderboard to $1,500 for girls. In addition to cash prizes, players will also have the opportunity to qualify for the Speed Chess Championship series of events based on their Titled Tuesday performances.

The first deadline for qualification spots in the Speed Chess Championship and Women’s Speed Chess Championship is June 11 for the Junior Speed Chess Championship, with two spots available for players born in 2006 or later. Six seats in the Speed Chess Championship will be awarded to the top six on the open leaderboard before June 18, and the top two women will qualify for the Women’s Speed Chess Championship with a cutoff date of August 6.

With the stakes higher than ever, the question on everyone’s mind is whether Hikaru Nakamura can maintain his dominance in the face of this extra motivation for his rivals. Nakamura holds the record for the most Titled Tuesday victories and has achieved a perfect score of 11/11 twice in the past.
