Kanpur Chess Players Shine at First AICF International Open Classic Fide Rated Chess Championship

Kanpur once again proved its prowess in the world of chess as two star players, Bal Govind Awasthi and Ram Babu Sachan, brought home top honors at the First AICF International Open Classic Fide Rated Chess Championship held in Faridabad, Haryana. The championship, which took place from June 26 to 30, saw Awasthi clinching the first place and Sachan securing the third spot.

Dilip Srivastava, the secretary of Kanpur Chess Association, proudly announced that Awasthi was crowned the champion and received a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000. On the other hand, Sachan’s impressive performance earned him the third place, a trophy, and a prize money of Rs 5,000. The second spot was claimed by Pramod Sharma from Delhi, who received a trophy and Rs 7,500 in prize money.

In addition to the success in chess, Kanpur also saw victories in the South Zone Inter School Football Championship at Green Park Stadium. Schools like Mother Teresa, Chintels, Swaraj India, and Heliger Borden emerged victorious in their matches, showcasing the city’s talent in multiple sports disciplines.

Meanwhile, the State Ranking Table Tennis Championship in Lucknow saw the journey of three Kanpur paddlers come to an end. Despite their best efforts, players like Suvigya Kushwaha and Ashutosh Gupta faced tough competition, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament.

On a lighter note, badminton players from Kanpur Badminton Academy came together to celebrate the birthday of P V Sindhu, a renowned Indian shuttler who has brought glory to the nation with her achievements in international competitions.
