Global Chess League Unveils Six Franchises for Second Edition in London

The Global Chess League is set to kick off its second edition in London from October 3 to 12, and the excitement is already building with the unveiling of six franchises. One of the most notable additions to the league is Team India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who has become the co-owner of the American Gambits team.

Ashwin, who recently achieved the milestone of 500 Test wickets, expressed his enthusiasm for his new role in a press statement. “We’re thrilled to introduce the American Gambits to the chess world. With a blend of strategic brilliance and unwavering determination, our team aims to redefine the game. As co-owner, I’m excited to witness their journey and contribute to their success,” he said.

The American Gambits will be joining the five returning franchises – Alpine SG Pipers, PBG Alaskan Knights, Ganges Grandmasters, defending champions Triveni Continental Kings, and Mumba Masters. The teams will compete in a double round-robin format, with each team playing 10 matches and the top two advancing to the final round.

Global Chess League CEO Sameer Pathak expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, stating, “We have found the right partners to strengthen the league’s global reach and look forward to bringing an exciting season of chess to fans worldwide. The teams made season one a huge success, and we believe that their impact and popularity will continue to expand in the world of chess.”

With the addition of the American Gambits and the return of the other franchises, the second edition of the Global Chess League promises to be a thrilling event for chess enthusiasts around the world.
