Exciting Events at the 2024 National Elementary School (K-6) Championship in Columbus, Ohio!

The US Chess National Elementary School (K-6) Championship is set to take place this weekend, April 26 through 28, in Columbus, Ohio. This prestigious event will showcase some of the best young chess players in the country, and US Chess is thrilled to host this exciting competition.

Registration is still open until 11:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday, April 25, so if you haven’t signed up yet, make sure to visit the event page and register online. There will be no on-site registration available, so don’t miss your chance to participate in this thrilling event.

The schedule of events for the championship includes special guest appearances by Grandmasters Mesgen Amanov and Irina Krush. GM Amanov, a renowned instructor from Illinois, and GM Krush, an eight-time U.S. Women’s champion and FIDE’s official commentator, will be on-site for various special events throughout the weekend.

Attendees can test their skills against GM Amanov and GM Krush in “Take-on-all-Comers” Blitz sessions, participate in a 30-board tandem simul exhibition, and learn from the best in Grandmaster Lectures with Q&A sessions. There will also be a “Take-on-all-Comers” Bughouse session where players can challenge the grandmasters.

Additionally, female players are invited to the US Chess Girls Club room for special events with guest FM/WIM Maggie Feng and Dr. Alexey Root, WIM. Blitz and Bughouse tournaments will provide fast-paced and thrilling action for participants and spectators alike.

For those not competing in the K-6 championship, there will be a Friends and Family Chess Tournament on Saturday, offering four rounds of G/30 games in rated and unrated sections. Registration will be open until the day of the event, with an entry fee of $30.

Viewers can also watch live commentary and analysis on US Chess’s Twitch channel during rounds five through seven, with special guest commentators GM Kayden Troff and WGM Sabina Foisor providing insights and coverage of the top boards.

With over 1,500 competitors expected to participate, the 2024 National Elementary School (K-6) Championship promises to be an exciting and competitive event.
