Sharjah Cultural Chess Club Promoting Chess in Schools to Identify New Talents

The world’s largest chess club in Sharjah is making waves with its efforts to promote the game among students in the emirate. With two international champions in the 12-year-old category, the club is aiming to foster greater interest in chess and identify new talents.

Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Hamid Al Qasimi, President of the UAE Arab Chess Federation and Chairman of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, emphasized the importance of schools in preparing and qualifying new players. The club is working to encourage schools to promote the game among students and discover new talents across Sharjah.

With plans to expand initiatives throughout the emirate, the club aims to reach all schools and engage more young people in chess. Sheikh Dr Khalid highlighted the strategic nature of the game, emphasizing the development of critical thinking and practical skills in its practitioners.

The club’s efforts have already seen success, with two international champions in the 12-year-old category. Safin Safarullah Khan, second in Asia, and Shayan Mohammad Shayan, third in the world, have showcased their skills and talent through the club’s programs.

In addition to promoting chess among students, the club also focuses on expanding the number of chess clubs in the emirate. With specialized clubs for males and females, as well as a chess academy, the club aims to develop the skills and abilities of players across the UAE.

The upcoming Arab Individual Chess Championship and Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship in Sharjah will further showcase the club’s dedication to the sport. With participation from 22 countries affiliated with the Arab Chess Federation, the event promises to be a thrilling display of talent and strategy.

Overall, the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club is leading the way in promoting chess and nurturing young talent in the emirate. Through its initiatives and programs, the club is not only fostering greater interest in the game but also developing critical skills and abilities in its players.
