Celebrating International Chess Day: Join the Guinness World Record Attempt!

Chess enthusiasts and players around the world are gearing up for an exciting opportunity to be a part of setting a Guinness World Record for the most amount of chess games played on a single day. This ambitious attempt is set to take place this coming Saturday, July 20, in celebration of International Chess Day.

Chess, a game of skill that requires strategy, patience, and knowledge, has been a beloved pastime for centuries. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) is marking its 100 year anniversary in 2024, and to kick off the celebrations, they are aiming to make history with this record-breaking event.

To participate in the world record attempt, players must engage in online chess games on platforms such as Chess.com, Lichess, FIDE Online Arena, Simple Chess, and Chess Alliance. The games must be played between midnight on July 20 and midnight on July 21, with each game lasting at least five minutes and consisting of a minimum of 15 moves per player.

For those who prefer a more traditional in-person game, London offers a variety of hotspots where players can gather for a friendly match. Locations such as the Chess Club in Mayfair, St John’s Garden on Horseferry Road, The Citadines Hotel in Holborn, The Chess and Bridge shop on Baker Street, Casual Chess meetups, and Battersea Chess Club provide opportunities for players to enjoy the game in a social setting.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or a novice looking to join in on the fun, this world record attempt is a unique opportunity to be a part of chess history. So mark your calendars, sharpen your skills, and get ready to make your move on International Chess Day.
