15-Year-Old Shreyas Royal Achieves Dream of Becoming Youngest British Chess Grandmaster

15-year-old Shreyas Royal, who faced eviction from the United Kingdom eight years ago due to his father’s expiring work visa, has now achieved his dream of becoming the youngest British chess grandmaster in history.

Royal’s remarkable journey culminated in the British Chess Championship in Hull, U.K., where he secured his final norm to become England’s 41st grandmaster. In a thrilling match against GM Michael Adams, Royal saved a lost position with Black to clinch the title.

Despite finishing sixth in the national championship, Royal’s performance was exceptional. He scored victories against top players and drew with others, showcasing his talent and determination. His success was built on a strong start in the first five rounds, where he scored 4.5 points.

His achievement at just 15 years, six months, and 24 days old makes him the youngest grandmaster in British chess history, breaking a record that stood for 17 years. His father expressed immense pride in Shreyas’ accomplishment, highlighting the hard work and dedication that led to this momentous achievement.

Royal’s journey towards the grandmaster title began several years ago, and his success is a testament to his perseverance and skill on the chessboard. He is now set to represent England in future competitions and continue to inspire young chess players around the world.

As an ambassador for ChessKid.com, Royal will continue to share his story and inspire others to pursue their dreams in the world of chess. With the support of the U.K government’s investment in the English Chess Federation, Royal and other young talents are poised to lead “The Great British Chess Revival.”

Royal’s next challenge awaits at the Open de Sants in Barcelona, Spain, where he will compete against top players in the chess world. His journey from facing eviction to becoming the youngest British grandmaster is a true testament to the power of determination and passion in achieving one’s dreams.
