Meet Raymond Sun: The Tech Lawyer, Full-Stack Developer, and Content Creator

Tech lawyer, full-stack developer, and content creator Raymond Sun is breaking the mold with his unique blend of hobbies and career choices. From chess to coding, from dance to law, Raymond’s journey is anything but typical.

It all started with chess for Raymond, who fell in love with the strategic and creative aspects of the game at a young age. This early passion for problem-solving and analytical thinking set the stage for his future pursuits.

From arcade games to algorithms, Raymond’s interest in technology grew alongside his legal studies. While studying law at UTS, he continued to hone his coding skills and explore the intersection of law and technology through elective courses and side projects.

During his time at university, Raymond took on various part-time jobs and internships, including a role at a legal tech startup where he discovered the potential for combining his legal and tech skills in a new role as a “Legal Engineer.”

But Raymond’s journey took an unexpected turn when he started creating content on YouTube during the COVID-19 lockdown. His AI algorithm for grading dance performances went viral, leading to collaborations with entertainment companies and a growing community of AI enthusiasts.

Now a technology lawyer at Herbert Smith Freehills, Raymond advises clients on regulatory and commercial aspects of AI, IT, and data projects. His work is international in scope, with projects spanning across the UK, China, and Singapore markets.

Outside of work, Raymond continues to pursue his passions for dance, coding, and AI projects. He has built and launched several apps and websites, sharing his expertise and insights with a growing audience.

As Raymond navigates his career and explores new opportunities, he remains grounded by his mantra to “pace yourself.” With a focus on longevity and sustainability, Raymond is carving out a unique path in the tech and legal industries, one dance move and AI project at a time.
