Team MGD1 Clinches Silver Medal in Inaugural World Blitz Team Championships

The Indian chess team led by GM Arjun Erigaisi clinched the silver medal in the inaugural World Blitz Team Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The team, named MGD1, put up a strong performance throughout the tournament, with Erigaisi upsetting former World Champion Magnus Carlsen in the final. Despite their best efforts, they fell short in the final against Team WR Chess, settling for the silver medal.

The team, consisting of all-Indian players including GM Srinath Narayanan, SL Narayanan, B. Adhiban, D. Harika, and amateur Mihir Shah, dominated their group matches and continued their winning streak in the knock-out stage. Their impressive performance in the tournament highlighted the talent and potential of Indian chess players on the global stage.
