The Hindu in School Chess Tournament Presented by NMDC Draws 548 Participants

The State Art Gallery in Hyderabad’s Madhapur was buzzing with excitement on Sunday as 548 students from 110 schools participated in the prestigious The Hindu in School Chess Tournament, presented by the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC). The event, which featured categories for players under the age of 15, followed the latest FIDE Rapid Rules in a Swiss League format.

Ch. Srinivasa Rao, DGM-CC of NMDC, graced the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the corporation’s commitment to promoting a vibrant sports culture in India. With the support of The Hindu and their flagship NMDC Hyderabad Marathon, NMDC is dedicated to nurturing young talent and transforming India into a sporting powerhouse. Olympian Nikhat Zareen, the brand ambassador of NMDC, further emphasizes their focus on developing the future of Indian sports.

The top 10 participants from each category will be awarded prizes during a ceremony at the NMDC office in Masab Tank on August 15. Winners will receive a shield, a merit certificate, and a cash prize, recognizing their skills and dedication to the game.

The tournament not only showcased the talent and passion of young chess players but also highlighted NMDC’s commitment to fostering a strong sports culture in the country. With such initiatives, India is on its way to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the world of sports.
