Global Chess League Season 2 Player Draft: Franchises Pick World’s Best Chess Players

The Global Chess League gears up for its second season with a star-studded lineup of players from around the world. The Player Draft, held in New Delhi, saw six franchises handpick 30 of the best chess players to compete in the upcoming season, scheduled to take place in London from October 3rd to 12th.

The six teams – Alpine SG Pipers, Ganges Grandmasters, Mumba Masters, PBG Alaskan Knights, Triveni Continental Kings, and American Gambits – engaged in a thrilling bidding process to assemble their squads. Each franchise filled their quota of Superstar Men, Superstar Women, Prodigy players, and Icons, with players like Magnus Carlsen, Viswanathan Anand, and Hikaru Nakamura leading the charge.

The excitement was palpable as players like Arjun Erigaisi, Nihal Sarin, and Hou Yifan expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming season. With a double round-robin format and a best-of-six board scoring system, the competition is expected to be fierce and exhilarating.

CEO of the Global Chess League, Sameer Pathak, expressed his anticipation for a thrilling season ahead, with strong and equal teams ready to battle it out in London. Fans can expect a cracking extravaganza in October as the world’s best chess players compete for glory in the Global Chess League’s second season.
